About the Event

Webster Health and Education Network (WHEN:DFCC) is pleased to present virtual Naloxone training on 5/3/21 at 6:00pm through Monroe County Office of Mental Health.

This 1-hour class prepares you to save the life of a suspected opioid/heroin overdose patient using a nasal spray. The overdose reversal kit will be sent to registrants upon completion of the training session, so your mailing address is required with registration. All adult, Webster community members over 18 are welcome.

Naloxone is a prescription medicine that reverses an overdose and blocks the effects of opioids. When a person is overdosing on an opioid, they can experience over-sedation, breathing can slow down or stop, causing their heart to stop beating. Naloxone temporarily counteracts these life-threatening effects. The latest version of the overdose prevention kits contain a form of naloxone that can be sprayed into a person’s nose. There are no serious side effects, although the patient might experience opioid withdrawal symptoms upon waking. The American Medical Association and others have endorsed community-based, educational programs that distribute naloxone. While our coalition's primary goal is the prevention of chemical use, we recognize that Naloxone can offer people a critical second chance for recovery.
