EMPOWERING WEBSTER KIDS TO GROW UP STRONG AND
SUBSTANCE FREE

WHEN:DFCC

is a network of Webster community members

linked through awareness, education and

ACTION.

Prevention through healthier choices can free young people from the consequences associated with early drug and alcohol exposure, such as substance use disorders, STDs, behavioral and health problems, early pregnancy, and crime. Businesses benefit from prevention, too. In fact, the U.S. Small Business Administration reports that when employees with substance use disorders come to work, they are 33% less productive and cost their employers $7,000 annually. We all have a stake in the health of our community and we can make a difference, together.

PRESCRIPTION

DRUG SAFETY

DURING COVID-19

It's more important than ever to keep prescription medications secure and dispose of them safely to avoid having them fall into the wrong hands.

The Town of Webster prescription drug drop off box has reopened to Webster residents: see details.

WHEN:DFCC has arranged for Safer Lock Boxes (to secure meds) and Deterra deactivation bags (for safe disposal at home) to be available to Webster residents free of charge (while supplies last). To pick one up, visit the Webster Chamber of Commerce, Mon-Fri 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM – no appointment needed.

COVID-19 and Elevated Substance Use Risks

  • If you stocked up on OTC cough and cold medicine due to the pandemic, be aware that these drugs may be misused, particularly by adolescents and teens. Keep track of them and store them safely.

  • COVID-19 has raised levels of stress and anxiety for many, which can prompt negative coping strategies like misuse of prescription drugs, drinking, or smoking/vaping. Encourage positive coping strategies instead.

  • Mental health resources are available to those struggling to cope, or experiencing distress or depression. Please call the NY COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline for free emotional support, consultations and referrals: 1-844-863-9314.

  • Most of all, talk to your kids often about how they are feeling, what their friends are doing, their concerns, and positive ways to combat stress.
